In our English lessons the topic USA was covered. We concentrated merely on three aspects, but the students were interested in so much more. After gathering ideas, the students put themselves into groups to prepare a presentation on a topic they found interesting. One group told the others about the death sentence, another one taught them the elective system and a third explained what “Homecoming” really meant. One group chose the American Football final “Super Bowl”. As the students were asked to be creative, this group re-enacted that sporting event. Please enjoy watching the 7A-students’ version of the season’s final […]
On March 14th, all year 6+7 students went to see the play “Virtual Heroes”. This play is about two students Rita and Kevin, who don’t like one another at first but get to know each other in an online game called “Fantasycraft”. There they are the hero and heroine that they are not (yet) in real life. Their avatars Sapphire and Byron teach them to be confident and fearless, and of course, they fall in love with one another. One of our students, Denisa, was even asked on stage and had to translate a German letter into English. She did […]
On Friday evening before the Christmas holidays, we – the 7AB WPF group – Mrs. Dorn-Verlooy and our English native speaker, Tristan, all went to the first district for a show at Theatre Drachengasse. It was an improvised production by the English Lovers, a theatre group who improvise every show they put on. It was a great experience – unique! We were all very surprised how quickly the actors were able to put together the skits, just based on randomly chosen words and phrases from the audience. We really enjoyed going to the theatre and look forward to doing such […]
On Thursday, May 5th, we, the 6A and a part of the 6B went to Graz with Mrs. Gassner and Mrs. Baumann. We visited the Banksy exhibition. We had previously discussed the topic of graffiti in our English class and that’s why we decided to go to an exhibition of one of the most famous graffiti sprayers in the world. Banksy is not only world famous but also anonymous. Nobody knows his true identity, which makes the exhibition even more special. After the exhibition we took a short break in the city centre and then walked up the Schlossberg. There […]
One of the topics the students have dealt with this year in the English elective was horror fiction. We looked at this genre from various angles. One was that every student had to write their own horror stories. Then they created audio-files. Here you can listen to the students telling their own stories: Johanna’s horror story Iman’s horror story Ecem’s horror story Ajla’s horror story Vanessa and Ziad’s horror story
On June 24th, 2021, our English Elective Subject of nine students and Mrs. Gassner visited an Australian pub as a reward for working hard throughout the year. The location was hidden next to the Albertina. There, we had the pleasure to eat some crunchy insects, such as mealworms and grasshoppers. It turned out to be a test of courage and we had to overcome our fear and disgust towards these highly interesting snacks. The myth of mealworms tasting like peanuts turned out to be wrong for most of the electives. For the others it tasted like nothing and to our […]
